Dr Paul Ling
Received his training internationally. He graduated with a Doctorate in Dental Surgery (DDS) from the University of Western Ontario in London, Canada, in the early 90s. As an undergraduate, he held a national research scholarship at the University of Guelph. Dr Ling later served as a Resident in Paediatric Dentistry at the Hospital for Sick Children, University of Toronto. He subsequently completed two concurrent postgraduate specialist degrees in Orthodontics at the Masters level, from the University of Adelaide and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He is therefore able to offer you a very broad professional background.

In 1997, Dr Ling initiated the Lingual Orthodontics program within the Masters course at the University of Adelaide, the first time such a program had ever been developed in Australia. Since then, similar Lingual Orthodontic programs have been developed at the Universities of Sydney and Melbourne. Dr Ling is also a founding member of the Canadian Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.

In addition to his current specialist practice in metropolitan Toronto, Dr Ling has previously worked in the profession all over the world, in places as diverse as northern Ontario, Hamilton, New York City, Sydney, Jamaica, South Australia, the People's Republic of China, and the middle east.

Dr Ling has delivered invited lectures at the Australian Orthodontic Congress, the Japanese Lingual Orthodontic Congress, the European Society of Lingual Orthodontics, and was a Keynote Speaker at the Second World Society of Lingual Orthodontics meeting in Seoul. He has lectured in Tokyo, Barcelona, Beijing, Montreal, Canberra, Shanghai, Pakistan, the Netherlands, and other international venues; and has been a member of the American Lingual Orthodontic Association (ALOA) since 1997; and is an Adjunct Clinical Professor at the University of Western Ontario. He also holds the Fellowship in Dental Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, and travels internationally as a Postgraduate Examiner for the Royal College.

What is a Specialist in Orthodontics?

In many countries nowadays, general dentists are permitted to offer limited orthodontic treatment without being required to complete any further study.

Most certified Orthodontists, however, must undertake a minimum of three years of additional postgraduate training within an accredited university program. In total, Dr Ling has had over ten years of full time academic and clinical university training and study.

Following over a decade of original work in Lingual Orthodontics, Dr Ling was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, the highest award given by the oldest such Institution of Surgery in the world.
